The most frequent areas affected by skin blisters are the hand and the feet. It is a generic condition caused as a result of recurring action or activity without any measures taken to protect the skin. This causes the top layer of the skin to split from the deeper layers of the skin creating a round bubble. As the bubble is formed it is filled in with the fluid by the surrounding tissues. Even though naturally the fluid works as a means to protect the top layer of the skin to get further damaged, the blisters leads to pain and swelling making it harder to function with the affected part of the body under such a condition.
It is crucial that skin blisters are quickly cured and treated to avoid infecting the area and to allow it to heal faster.
The basic treatments for blisters include covering the blister with a bandage or gauze pad around the area to prevent skin irritation. After that it is necessary to carefully clean the area with soap and water and apply any disinfectant or alcoholic swab to kill the bacteria and reduce the probability of infection. The end of a disinfected needle should be used to puncture and make a small hole in the corner of the blister to drain the fluid. This will generate the affected area to heal and reduce the pain to quite an extent. In the case the bubble is small and causes no pain or irritation, it is recommended that the blister is left as it is to clear out on its own. However if the condition is severe after the fluid is drained out the loose skin should be carefully skimmed over the wound to help the area from getting contaminated.
When the wound is cleaned out an ointment cream is the best way to get rid of the blisters. A triple antibiotic gel would be helpful to prevent spreading of infection and the gel would prevent the gauze to cling to the skin. For a full recovery the area should be covered at all times and the gauze or bandage should be changed once or twice a day if the affected area gets dirty or wet.
