  Food Allergies and Acne

Acne can be defined as a skin condition caused when the sebaceous glands excrete large amounts of oil that block the pores of the skin. The production of bacteria within the pores in turn leads to acne. The factors that lead to acne development are numerous; one of them that is clearly identified is food allergies. According to medical experts the primary cause for adult acne are food allergies. The condition develops when certain food allergens are consumed that give off a chemical reaction within the body each time the food allergen is consumed. In most cases it can be difficult to fully avoid certain food items that can lead to food allergies such as dairy food and wheat. One needs to be more careful in such cases; it is favorable to first read the ingredients used to manufacture such food items before consuming them. It is also recommended to consult a relevant doctor after suffering from frequent acne development as a result of taking food allergens. The doctors will be able to identify the association between the two. It is also favorable to first inquire with a doctor before changing the entire diet plan.

Recent studies show that food allergies and acne have a strong correlation. The former can lead to development of the latter in the form of inflammation, skin rashes or pimples. If the food allergens can be identified it is advisable to avoid consuming them altogether. When looked at in detail, food allergies develop when the immune system of the body is highly sensitive to certain proteins that the food allergens contain. Some common food items that cause allergies include soy, tree nuts, peanuts, dairy as well as fish. The reaction to the food occurs when the immune system identifies the food as bacteria. The immune systems attack the proteins that in turn produce immunoglobulin E also known as Histamine, causing inflammation and rashes to develop on the skin surface. The most effective treatment is to avoid the food allergens from ones diet as per the doctor’s recommendation.
