Eyebrow acne is common and may be a result of eyebrow threading and application of cosmetics. Eyebrow skin is very sensitive and vulnerable to damage. Most women who never had developed acne in their entire life, may have eyebrow acne after eyebrow threading. Eyebrow threading is a process of pulling small hair of eyebrows using cotton thread. Eyebrow tweezing is another method of shaping eyebrows with tools like tweezers.

Whatever method is used for shaping eyebrows, what happens ultimately? Hair grow from hair follicles. Hair follicles are tiny tubular cavities through which hair shafts arise. Therefore, hair follicles gives rise to hair shafts. Without hair follicles, there are no hair. When you tweeze or thread eyebrow hair, they are pulled from hair follicles. These methods of threading and tweezing weakens the hair follicles and follicles get infected and inflamed. You know, acne is an inflammation of hair follicles and sebaceous glands, therefore, inflammation of eyebrow ultimately results in small bumpy structures called pimples, whiteheads, blackheads etc.

Although tweezing and threading are the two fundamental causes of eyebrow acne, most often they are not directly associated with eyebrow acne, instead they transfer bacteria, fungi to the hair follicles. Chemical cosmetics clog hair follicles of eyebrows. It results in accumulation of sebum within hair follicles. When sebum is accumulated within hair follicles, it put pressure on walls of hair follicles. At this juncture, small bumps appear. If sebum still stays inside, it is called whiteheads and if sebum pops out, it is called blackheads.

Eyebrow Acne Treatment:
Eyebrow acne usually disappear after few days. If it is caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, it is treated with topical and oral antibiotics. Avoid touching eyebrows with finger as doing so may aggravate the infection. Avoid cosmetics until even a single pimple disappears.

Prevention of Eyebrow Acne:
Avoid frequent eyebrow threading and tweezing as they are the foremost cause of eyebrow acne. Avoid use of chemical substances like gels creams for performing efficient threading and tweezing as these substances may clog hair follicles. Always use sterilized tweezers and threads as they are the most common medium of bacteria and fungi transference.
